17th Century
The 17th century lasted from 1601 to 1700 in the Gregorian calendar. This century falls into the early modern period and Baroque cultural movement characterized the 17th century. The beginning of modern science and philosophy was in this century. European colonization of the Americans began in the early 17th century. Great Turkish war, Dutch Revolt and the English Civil war came to an end.
In the east the 17th century saw the boom of ottoman, Persian and mughal empires and also the beginning of the Edo period in Japan. And in china the century saw the violent transition from the Ming to the Oing Dynasty.
It is during this century the scientific revolution ended.
